Our daughter was on a ventilator and the plane was on its way.  The decision was made to transport her to Guatemala City where more advanced care was available.  When the people with the plane arrived, we took her off the ventilator and began to oxygenate her again by hand.  We asked to borrow the bassinet from the hospital for the trip, but they said that it was the only one they had to transport patients to and from x-ray.  Our daughter was wrapped in towels that had been heated in the oven.  And we boarded a pickup to get to the nearby airport.  Since the pilot's wife was a former neonatal intensive care nurse, I felt more comfortable with her holding and oxygenating our daughter.
